The University of Kentucky women’s basketball team will travel to Chapel Hill to take on North Carolina on Thursday, Dec. 5, as part of the second-annual Southeastern Conference/Atlantic Coast Conference Challenge.

In their most recent matchup, the Wildcats triumphed over the Tar Heels, 85-75, on Nov. 24, 2018, at the Paradise Jam in the Virgin Islands, a victory that secured Kentucky’s second consecutive Paradise Jam tournament title. However, Kentucky trails the all-time series against North Carolina, 1-5, and has yet to secure a win in Chapel Hill, where they last played on Nov. 28, 2001, losing 102-64.

Details regarding the tip time and network designation for the game are still to be announced.

North Carolina finished the 2023-24 season with a 20-13 overall record and an 11-7 mark in the ACC. The Tar Heels were eliminated in the NCAA Tournament Second Round by the eventual champions, the South Carolina Gamecocks, with a score of 88-41.

Last season, the Wildcats edged Boston College in the inaugural ACC/SEC Challenge, winning 83-81 on a last-second layup by senior Eniya Russell on Nov. 30 at the Clive M. Beck Center.

Kentucky is ranked 25th in the most recent ESPN Way-Too-Early Top 25. Head coach Kenny Brooks has assembled a roster featuring two returners and 11 newcomers, including junior transfer Teonni Key from North Carolina. The team is a blend of experience and fresh talent, with three freshmen, three sophomores, four juniors, a redshirt senior, and two graduate students, including All-American and Final Four participant Georgia Amoore.

The student-athletes are beginning their move to Lexington, with their first workout scheduled for late June.

Big Blue Nation is encouraged to place deposits to secure their spot for season tickets. Those who make deposits will be contacted starting in late July to select their seats, following the seat selection process for current ticket holders, which runs from June 17 to July 19.

The full 2024-25 Kentucky women’s basketball schedule will be released at a later date.
