WKU Women’s Tennis Signs Elizabeth Sobieski as New Transfer

Western Kentucky University Women’s Tennis Head Coach Greg Davis announced the signing of Elizabeth Sobieski on Friday. Sobieski joins the Lady Toppers as a transfer from Valparaiso, bringing with her a wealth of experience and accolades from her time with the Beacons.

“I think Elizabeth has just scratched the surface on her potential,” Davis said. “I feel her work ethic on and off the court, as well as her results, will blend in well with the culture we have created at WKU Tennis.”

Sobieski’s Background and Achievements

Elizabeth Sobieski, a junior hailing from Muskego, Wisconsin, spent the past two seasons at Valparaiso. During her time there, she accumulated numerous honors:

  • 2022-23 team’s Valpo Award winner
  • 2023-24 MVC Scholar-Athlete Second Team
  • 2023-24 Team Academic Award
  • 2023-24 CSC Academic All-District

In the 2023-24 season, Sobieski posted a 17-11 record in singles and secured 11 doubles wins. She achieved 12 wins in dual matches, including four in conference play, starting the season with an impressive eight straight singles victories. Additionally, she claimed the Flight 5 Singles title at the Illinois State Invite on October 1. In her freshman season, Sobieski went 9-4 in singles, 7-1 in dual matches, and earned eight doubles victories.

High School Success

At Muskego High School, Sobieski’s talent was evident as she won the 2020 Wisconsin girls singles state title and contributed to her team’s 2020 Wisconsin girls team state championship. The previous year, her team was the state runner-up, showcasing her consistent high-level performance.

WKU Roster and Recent Performance

Sobieski is the second transfer signing for WKU Women’s Tennis this offseason, following the addition of Marshall transfer Emily Schut announced on Wednesday. The two transfers join returning players Sofia Blanco, Sunskrithi Damera, Rachel Hermanova, and Mariana Zegada on the 2024-25 roster.

The Lady Toppers are coming off a strong 14-11 season in 2024, which tied for the fourth-most wins in a single season in program history. WKU is in the midst of its winningest three-year stretch ever, achieving 47 wins during that period.

With the addition of Sobieski, WKU Women’s Tennis is poised for another successful season. Her proven track record and strong work ethic are expected to make a significant impact as the Lady Toppers aim to build on their recent successes and continue their upward trajectory in collegiate tennis.
