UK Women’s Tennis Heads East for Ivy League Matchups

No. 22 Kentucky will make a trip to the East Coast this weekend to take on a pair of Ivy League opponents, first heading to No. 54 Princeton on Friday, Feb. 12, before taking on No. 50 Columbia on Sunday, Feb. 14.
The Wildcats are currently 4-1 on the 2016 season, with their only loss coming to current No. 8 Michigan in the championship final of the ITA Kick-Off Regional. UK currently has two ranked singles players in No. 59 Aldila Sutjiadi, who has posted a 3-1 record this year, and No. 109 Mami Adachi, who is also 3-1 on the young season. The two Wildcats also form the No. 4 doubles team in the nation, which dropped from the No. 1 spot after going 2-2 in 2016.
UK will face Princeton at 2 p.m. ET inside Jadwin Gym in Princeton, N.J. The Tigers are coming off a win over Yale in the Eastern College Athletic Conference (ECAC) Championships consolation final, claiming a 4-0 victory over the Bulldogs. Princeton has posted a 4-3 record this year, with all three losses coming to ranked opponents in No. 27 Arizona State, 6-1, No. 58 Arizona, 6-1, and No. 72 Harvard, 4-2. Amanda Muliawan is the sole ranked athlete for the Tigers, having posted a 6-2 record at No. 1 singles with her only losses of the season coming to No. 39 Lauren Marker of Arizona and No. 37 Desirae Krawczyk of ASU. Live streaming of the match will be available on the Ivy League Digital Network. Passes are available in monthly, four-month, or annual packages.
Kentucky’s match with Columbia is slated for 11 a.m. inside the Dick Savitt Tennis Center in New York, N.Y. The Lions are also coming off a victory in the ECAC Championships, claiming the crown with a 4-2 win over Harvard. Columbia has a 4-2 record in 2016, with losses coming against No. 9 Virginia and No. 65 Syracuse. After not appearing in the first Intercollegiate Tennis Association (ITA) rankings of the season, the Lions now have two players ranked in No. 53 Kanika Vaidya and No. 81 Alexandra Solovyev. Vaidya has gone 5-1 this year at No. 1 singles, falling only to No. 2 Danielle Collins of Virginia. Solovyev has posted a 5-1 record at the No. 4 spot, and is also a half of the No. 43 doubles pairing in the nation along with Rima Asatrian, as the two have gone 1-3 this year with setbacks to No. 7 Taylor Ng/Kristina Mathis of Dartmouth and No. 13 Collins/Meghan Kelly of Virginia.
