UK Women’s Soccer Evangeline Soucie Crowned SEC Freshman of the Week

After recording her first clean sheet and first career win in a three-day stretch over the weekend, Kentucky women’s soccer goalkeeper Evangeline Soucie was named the Southeastern Conference Freshman of the Week on Tuesday, it was announced by the league office.
Soucie helped guide the Wildcats into the annual “Battle of the Bluegrass” on Friday night, making a career high six saves in a 3-1 win over the Louisville Cardinals for UK’s sixth consecutive win in the series. Soucie made two spectacular diving stops to keep the game level at 1-1 in the first half, and preserve a 2-1 lead late in the second half off of a UL corner kick.
On Sunday, after picking up her first career win at Louisville on Friday, she made four saves en route to her first shutout as a Wildcat as Kentucky shut out High Point, 3-0, at the Bell Soccer Complex.
Soucie is now at a 1.53 GAA in her 470 minutes in net on the season with 17 saves made and eight goals allowed. The Milford, N.J., native has led Kentucky to a 2-2-1 record as SEC play begins this week for the Wildcats.
Kentucky will stay in the Bluegrass State for the week and welcome in the No. 5 Florida Gators to the Bell Soccer Complex on Thursday night for a nationally-televised match as the SEC Network kicks off its unprecedented coverage of women’s college soccer. Jenn Hildreth and former Olympic gold medalist Heather Mitts will have the call from Lexington.
The first 250 fans into the Bell Soccer Complex on Thursday night will receive UK Women’s Soccer Thunderstix.
