UK Cross Country Men’s Team, Jacob Thomson Runners-up a t Texas A&M

Kentucky junior Jacob Thomson finished as runner-up individually, leading the men’s team to a second place finish overall at the Texas A&M Invitational Saturday.
Texas A&M won the men’s competition with 33 points to Kentucky’s 41.
Kentucky’s women’s team placed fourth overall with 82 points. Rice won the women’s team competition with 70 points.

Men’s recap
Thomson earned his second runner-up finish of the season, running a 2016 best 8,000-meter time of 24:12.70 – 19 seconds behind winner Brian Barraza of Houston. Barraza didn’t earn a team score so Thomson scored one point.
Cross country meet team scores are calculated by adding up the values of each teams’ top-five placers finishes, with the low score winning.
Mick Iacofano placed sixth overall running 24:31.50. Brennan Fields placed 10th in 24:39.50 and Daniel Southard was a spot behind him in 24:40.90. Ben Young was Kentucky’s No. 4 finisher in 24:56.40.
Women’s Recap
Katy Kunc – winner of her first two races this season – turned in another strong result placing third overall in a 6k time of 20:18.50.
Caroline McCaslin was 13th in 21:17.10. Amy Hansen was a spot behind McCaslin in 21:21.50. Aundrea Busse placed 23rd in 21:43.90, Whitney O’Bryan was 29th in 21:53.10 and Jill Weston rounded out Kentucky’s scorers in 37th (22:03.00).

Collegiate teams competing in the Texas A&M Invitational included a pair of Southeastern Conference squads in the host and LSU while the Big 12 was represented by Baylor (women) and TCU.
The field also included Central Arkansas, Houston, Houston Baptist, Lamar, Lipscomb (women), McNeese State, Midwestern State, Prairie View A&M, Rice, Sam Houston, Tarleton State, Texas A&M-Corpus Christi, Texas Southern, Texas Wesleyan, UTSA.
