UK Women’s Tennis Wraps Up Weekend at Northwestern Invite

The University of Kentucky’s women’s tennis team opened its fall campaign this weekend at the Northwestern Invite in Evanston, Ill., sending four of its players to compete in UK’s first fall tournament of the season.
Participating schools included host Northwestern, DePaul, Eastern Michigan, Iowa, Michigan State, Notre Dame, Pittsburgh, Wisconsin and Illinois at Chicago.
Freshmen Lesedi Jacobs and Milicia Novakovic joined returning players Akvile Parazinskaite and Emily Fanning. In all, the Wildcats tallied a 6-2 record in doubles and 8-3 record in singles.
“It was a successful weekend for us at Northwestern,” said Kentucky assistant coach Federico Sabogal. “We showed good character and competitiveness which is what we are looking for with this program.”
“For this being the first tournament of the season for us, the girls really showed the work that they have put out on the court since coming back from the summer. We definitely have more work to do, but I think this was a good beginning to our season.”
Kentucky will be back in action at two separate tournaments this weekend. The No. 1 preseason ranked doubles pairing of Mami Adachi and Aldila Sutjiadi will head to Pacific Palisades, Calif., to compete in ITA All-American Championships. Four more Wildcats – Fanning, Jacobs, Novakovic and Justina Mikulskyte – will head to Nashville, Tennessee, to compete in the Vanderbilt Invitational from Oct. 7-9.
