UK Punter Grant McKinniss Named to Ray Guy Award Candidate List

University of Kentucky true freshman punter Grant McKinniss has been named to the Ray Guy Award candidate list it was announced Monday.
Given annually to the top collegiate punter, the award recipient is selected by vote of national sportswriters, college coaches, sports information directors and past Ray Guy Award winners. Ten semifinalists will be named on Nov. 11 and the three finalists will be released on Nov. 22. The winner will be announced live on Dec. 8 at The Home Depot College Football Awards Red Carpet Show on ESPNU.

McKinniss is one of 66 candidates for the award, which uses net punting average, punts downed or kicked out of bounds inside the opponent’s 20-yard line, total yardage punted, average return yardage and percentage of punts not returned to determine it’s recipient.
On the season, McKinniss has punted 36 times for 1,424 yards and a 39.6 average with a 61-yard long. The freshman from Findlay, Ohio has had six punts downed inside the 20, forced eight fair catches and boomed three more than 50 yards. His yards per punt ranks third in the Southeastern Conference among freshman punters.
