No. 8 Louisville WBB Plays at Virginia on Thursday

The No. 8 University of Louisville women’s basketball team continues its road trip on Thursday, when it plays at Virginia in John Paul Jones Arena in Charlottesville at 7 p.m.

The Jan. 4 game will be broadcast on ACC Network Extra, with Dave Koehn (play-by-play) and Chelsea Shine (analyst) calling the action. Louisville’s radio broadcast can be heard on WKRD 790 AM, featuring Nick Curran (play-by-play) and Adrienne Johnson (analyst).

Louisville (13-3, 1-1 ACC) saw its seven-game winning streak and undefeated true road record come to a halt on Monday, when the Cardinals fell 58-55 at No. 13 Duke. Louisville had not lost for a month, with its last defeat coming on Dec. 1.

The Cardinals outrebounded Duke 37-25 and held the Blue Devils without a second-chance point. Duke, though, shot 54.2 percent in the second half and outscored Louisville 17-11 in the final period. Myisha Hines-Allen recorded 16 points and 12 rebounds for her sixth double-double of the season, Asia Durr had 15 points, and Mariya Moore finished with 14 points and four rebounds.

On the year, Durr is carrying a team-leading 18.3 scoring average and has connected on 57 3-pointers, second-most nationally. Hines-Allen is producing 12.8 points and 8.8 rebounds, and Moore boasts 11.0 points, 4.6 rebounds, and 4.6 assists per game.

As a team, Louisville ranks 12th in assists per game (18.7), 20th in scoring margin (plus-18.5), 23rd in assist-turnover ratio (1.27), and 25th in turnover margin (plus-5.81).

Virginia (11-3, 0-1) had won six-consecutive games before its losing streak was snapped on Monday.

The Cavaliers saw an 11-point halftime lead vanish, were outscored 14-7 in the final period, and fell 54-49 at No. 21 Syracuse, despite holding the Orange to 21.0 percent shooting for the game. Virginia, which dominated scoring in the paint 36-18, turned the ball over 27 times in the contest that led to 25 Syracuse points.

Felicia Aiyeotan was the only Virginia player to score in double figures, coming off the bench and contributing 10 points on 5-of-6 shooting. Jocelyn Willoughy totaled five points and 11 rebounds before fouling out. Breyana Mason added six points and eight rebounds, but was one of three starters to tally six turnovers in the loss.

Through 14 games, Lauren Moses is pacing the team in scoring at 11.7 points and shooting a team-best 50.4 percent. Willoughby is producing 10.0 points and a team-high 6.4 rebounds. Mason is first on the team with 26 steals and is one of four players with at least 20 this year.

Collectively, Virginia ranks in the top-25 nationally in scoring defense (No. 5), field goal percentage defense (No. 11), and 3-point field goal defense (No. 24).
