Kentucky State University women’s basketball will take a three-game winning streak into a Saturday evening matchup with rival Central State University at the Beacon/Lewis Gymnasium.
The Thorobrettes (7-8, 4-4) have yet to lose since the calendar flipped from 2016 to 2017, defeating Clark Atlanta University, Tuskegee University, and Miles College. In those three contest, KSU averaged 75 points per game, nearly six points better than their season average.
The Lady Marauders (11-5, 6-2) sit atop the SIAC West Division as the team to beat, riding the wave of an eight-game winning streak.
KSU features a scoring attack of junior Brittani Rizzi and sophomore center Brooke Wallace. Behind the duo, the Thorobrettes present an outside and inside presence of scoring.
Rizzi leads the team with 13 points per game while averaging a little over three made three-point baskets per game, ranking her No. 1 in NCAA Division II, and 59 made threes on the season, ranking her No. 2 in NCAA DII. In 15 games, Rizzi has notched double-digit points in six contests.
Wallace is coming over her most complete performance of the year with 16 points and 14 rebounds against Miles College, accomplishing her first double-double of the season. The Oberlin, Ohio native ranks as the No. 2 scorer for KSU and is the team’s No. 1 rebounder with over six boards per game.
Tipoff is set for 6:00 p.m. and fans are encouraged to purchase tickets online as the doubleheader is expected to be a sellout. Admission and parking are both set a $5.00.
