The Eastern Kentucky University track and field team competed at Indiana University’s Gladstein Invitational on Friday.
Junior All-American Charlotte Imer continued her stellar year by clocking a personal-best time of 9:32.37 in the 3,000 meters. That time is currently the fastest in the Ohio Valley Conference, and the seventh-fastest time in the country.
It is also the fourth-fastest indoor 3,000 meters time in school history.
Imer – a cross country All-American in the fall – already owns the 10th fastest 5,000 meters time in the country (16:16.05), which she also ran at the Gladstein Fieldhouse during the Hoosier Open on December 9.
Senior Madison Zeitz also turned in a notable performance for the women’s team on Friday, running 5:13.77 in the mile, which currently ranks No. 8 in the OVC.
On the men’s side, two Colonels ran OVC-best times at the meet. Senior Luis Luna won the mile with a PR of 4:11.43, while junior Jamaine Coleman was not far behind in second with a personal-best time of 4:12.31. Those times rank No. 1 and No. 2 in the conference.
Senior Ambrose Maritim, meanwhile, made his season debut by running 14:59.54 in the 5,000 meters, which is currently the fastest in the OVC.
Sophomore Erick Rotich and senior Amos Kosgey recorded solid times in the 3,000 meters on Friday. Rotich ran 8:24.14, which ranks No. 3 in the OVC, while Kosgey clocked an 8:29.11, which ranks No. 5 in the conference.
Reigning OVC high jump champion Tequan Claitt also made his season debut at the meet, but not in the high jump. Claitt recorded a personal-best triple jump of 45-9.25, which currently ranks No. 6 in conference.
The EKU track and field team returns to action next weekend at the Thundering Herd Invitational in Huntington, West Virignia.
