Eastern Kentucky University sophomore forward Nick Mayo has been named the College Sports Madness Ohio Valley Conference Player of the Week, the website announced on Monday.
Mayo averaged averaged 20.0 points, 7.0 rebounds, 5.0 blocks and 3.5 assists-per-game to lead EKU to road wins at Jacksonville State and Tennessee Tech last week.
On Thursday, the native of Oakland, Maine posted 19 points, eight rebounds, three assists and a career-high seven blocks in a 57-52 win over JSU. His seven blocks were the most by a Colonel in a single game since 2013, and the most by any OVC player this season.
Two nights later, Mayo poured in a game-high 21 points, to go along with six rebounds, four assists and three blocks, as EKU erased a 17-point deficit and stormed back to beat TTU, 79-66.
Mayo – the reigning OVC Freshman of the Year – currently ranks fifth in the conference in scoring (17.5 points-per-game) and fourth in blocks (1.4 blocks-per-game).
Mayo and the Colonels will look to make it three straight wins when they host Austin Peay on Wednesday, February 1. Tip-off from McBrayer Arena in scheduled for 8:00 p.m.
