EKU Softball Scores Early, But Can’t Stem Miami Comeback

Eastern Kentucky University’s softball team took a 2-0 lead, but Miami (Ohio) scored seven unanswered to win 7-2 on Tuesday.

A pair of sacrifice flies by Brittany Oldaker and Amber Murray gave the Colonels (6-10) a 2-0 lead in the top of the second inning. However, the Redhawks (8-11) scored three in the bottom of the inning, two of which came on a double by Michaela Schlattman, and never trailed again.

It remained a one-run game until Miami platted four more in the bottom of the sixth on a grand slam by Lauren Anderson.

Mia Sanchez finished 2-for-4 for Eastern Kentucky. Schlattman had a 3-for-4 day with a run and two RBIs for the Redhawks.

EKU will travel to Oxford, Mississippi for the Ole Miss Classic this weekend. The five-game event begins Friday with games against Oklahoma state at 10 a.m. and Mississippi at 5:30 p.m.
