Coming off their third win of the 2016-17 season last week in Florida, the Murray State women’s golf squad kept that good play going by shooting the best round of the day in the opener of the John Kirk Panther Intercollegiate at Eagle’s Landing Country Club in Stockbridge, Georgia.
The Racers dueled in the opening round with fellow Ohio Valley Conference member Eastern Kentucky as they bested the Colonels by one shot in the first round, 293 to 294. Oral Roberts (296), Kansas State (298), Winthrop and Florida Gulf Coast (300) made up the top-6 in the field of 15 teams.
Junior Anna Moore led the Racers in the first round with a 1-under-par 71 which gave her a share of second place. Lucila Puente and Linette Holmslykke shared seventh place after each carded a 73. Moa Folke was in 22nd place with a 76 and Jane Watts carded an 82 and was in 59th place.
MSU freshman Raeysha Surendran had the best score among the eight individuals in the event. Her 74 was good for a spot in 12th place overall in the field of 81 players.
