Holly Hankenson and Eric Fox opened up the Texas Relays with outstanding performances in the multi-events on Wednesday. Hankenson finished the first day in 12th place of the women’s heptathlon with 3290 points while Fox is currently in 13th place of the men’s decathlon with 3625 points.
“Holly and Eric opened our trip to Texas with a bang,” said head coach Dale Cowper. “When you total up the points each of them scored throughout day one of the multi-events they are each on pace to set personal records. We could see two school records fall by the end of tomorrow’s competition.”
Hankenson started the day with an 11th place finish in the 100 meters with a time of 14.02. She then finished 16th in the long jump with a mark of 1.61m/5-03.25. In the shot put, Hankenson finished 10th with a throw of 11.83m/38-09.75. She wrapped up the day with a 10th place finish in the 200 meters with a personal best time of 24.67.
Fox started the day with an 18th place finish in the 100 meters with a time of 11.37. He then finished 17th in the long jump with a mark of 6.40m/21-00.00. In the shot put, Fox finished seventh with a personal best throw of 13.26m/43-06.00. He finished 10th in the high jump with a mark of 1.91m/6-03.25. He wrapped up the day in the 400 meters, finishing 15th with a time of 51.11.
Both Hankenson and Fox will wrap up competition tomorrow afternoon.
