Louisville Softball’s Becker Named ACC Player of the Week

The University of Louisville’s Maryssa Becker was named ACC Player of the Week for the final weekend of the season.

Becker led the Cardinals offensively with a .583 batting average (7-for-12). She posted a .917 slugging percentage with four doubles and scored four runs with one RBI. She had at least one double in each game and tied a career high with three hits in games two and three of the series. She now leads the team with 13 doubles and moves to seventh on Louisville’s career list for doubles.

The Medford, Ore., native also posted two wins in the circle to help the Cardinals sweep NC State and claim the No. 2 seed in the ACC Championship. The senior posted a 1.66 ERA and struck out 15 in 12.2 innings and combined on a shutout in the season finale. She went the distance in an eight-inning 4-3 win while striking out six to help clinch the series and proceeded to toss 4.2 shutout innings while striking out nine and scattering five hits. She also played perfect defense with four assists and one putout.

With her performance on the weekend, Becker moves to second on Louisville’s career strikeout list with 616. She also collected her 21st and 22nd wins of the season – a career high and improves her career win tally to 69, placing her third on Louisville’s all-time list.

Louisville (31-18, 14-8 ACC) will face NC State in the first round of the ACC Championship Thursday at 5 p.m. at North Carolina’s Anderson Stadium.
