Eastern Kentucky University’s Inside EKUSports television show was awarded the Ohio Valley Conference Digital Network Program of Excellence Award for Ancillary Programming, the league office announced on Thursday.
Inside EKUSports is a weekly show hosted by the long-time voice of the Colonels, Greg Stotelmyer, which gives Colonel fans an inside look at EKU athletics. The program also entails University news, and feature stories on academic programs and student success initiatives.
“It’s awesome that we won,” stated EKU Athletics Digital Broadcast and Video Coordinator David Miller. “This was a team effort, with the help of EKU Media, Greg Stotelmyer, the coaches, student-athletes and our other guests from the world of academia, we were able to produce a great show.”
The show is a collaboration between athletics and the University’s Division of Communications and Marketing and is entirely produced by members of the EKU Communications and Marketing staff and members of the EKU Athletics department.
Of all the programs throughout the conference that air on the digital network, Inside EKUSports is the only one to feature more than one sport.
“When we decided to produce our own sports show we didn’t want to limit ourselves to just a coaches’ show, so one of the things we talked about was doing a show that featured all of our athletic programs,” explained Miller. “There are many good programs being produced by OVC schools, so bringing home this award in our first year of doing the show speaks volumes to work that we do here at EKU.”
