Former Eastern Kentucky University women’s basketball player Alexus Cooper has signed to play professionally in Romania. Cooper will be playing for CS B Teleorman Alexandria.
“It’s truly a blessing to have signed my first professional contract,” Cooper said in a release issued by her agency, InterperformancesUSA (IPZ). “IPZ has made the process enjoyable. I am eager to begin my professional career in Romania and am grateful for the opportunity.”
The Rocky Mount, North Carolina native averaged 12.7 points while starting all 32 games during the 2016-17 season. She led the team in three-point field goals (76) and steals (1.6 spg), and was second in assists (1.9 apg).
Cooper scored in double figure in 21 games. She scored a career-high 26 points and dished out a career-best eight assists against Wright State on Dec. 19.
The 5-foot-8 guard played a pivotal role in securing a spot in the Ohio Valley Conference Tournament in a home win against Tennessee Tech on Feb. 25, scoring 26 points on eight made three’s. Cooper knocked down at least one three-point basket in 28 games.
“We at IPZ are thrilled for Alexus,” Shawn Farmer, IPZ’s managing director of basketball, said in a release. “She’s an amazing player and person; she has worked so hard for this moment and I can’t wait to see what she will accomplish in Romania.”
The Colonels have advanced to the Ohio Valley Conference championship game each of the past two seasons.
