UK Womens Golf’s Josephine Chang Tabbed a WGCA All-American Scholar

Kentucky women’s golfer Josephine Chang was named to the 2016-17 Women’s Golf Coaches Association All-American Scholar Team on Wednesday.
A total of 952 women’s collegiate golfers from Divisions I, II and II were recognized with the prestigious honor. Among the requirements to be nominated a WGCA All-American Scholars, a student-athlete must have a minimum cumulative grade-point average of 3.50 for the entirety of her college career, be of high moral character and played in 50 percent of the college’s regularly scheduled competitive rounds during the year nominated.
Chang, a freshman for the 2016-17 season, was also tabbed to the Southeastern Conference First-Year Academic Honor Roll last week. She made UK’s Dean’s List for both the fall and spring semesters this past academic year.
On the course, Chang was just as good. The Rancho Cucamonga, California, native appeared in 10 of the team’s 11 events last season, missing only the season-opening Minnesota Invitational. She recorded eight rounds of par or better, behind only Isabelle Johansson, who set the school record
Chang began her career with four straight rounds of par or better. She won SEC Freshman of the Week on March 22, becoming just the second Wildcat to win the award in school history. Chang posted four top-30 finishes in 2016-17, including 16th place at the Clover Cup in Mesa, Arizona.
In May, Chang teamed up with teammate Sarah Shipley and advanced to the round of 16 at the U.S. Women’s Amateur Four-Ball Championship. The duo qualified for the national tournament by winning a local qualifier in April.
With Chang leading the way academically, 2016-17 Kentucky women’s golf team posted a 3.568 GPA during the spring semester, among the highest in UK’s athletic department.
