The freshman duo of outside hitters Makayla Martin and Robin Poole registered double-doubles as Kentucky State University volleyball dropped a 3-1 affair to visiting Asbury University on Tuesday night at the Exum Center.
The Thorobrettes (22-12, 14-4) wrapped up their season with the fifth straight season of 20 plus wins and the first under head coach Katrina English. The Eagles (19-7) concluded their season as well and will roll into the River States Conference championship tournament as the No. 3 seed out of the west division.
KSU and AU swapped the opening two sets, heading into the third set tied at one. The Thorobrettes battled in the third set but fell victim to a 6-0 run midway through to fall 25-19. Momentum continued for the Eagles’ side as they began the fourth and final frame on a 12-1 run closing out the Thorobrettes 25-11.
Poole led the Thorobrettes in kills with 12 and picked up her team-leading ninth double-double with 11 kills. Martin collected a team-high 14 digs along with 11 kills, for her eighth double-double.
KSU will have a seven-day layoff as it prepares for the SIAC Championship Tournament. The Thorobrettes will hold the No. 1 seed out of the West Division and will take on No. 4 Claflin University at 2 p.m. ET (1 p.m. CT) at the Birmingham Crossplex on Wednesday, Nov. 15.
