Campbellsville’s Jaceree Caldwell was named the Mid-South Conference Bluegrass Division Defensive Freshman of the Year, the conference office announced on Thursday afternoon with its all-conference accolades.
Caldwell is one of eight Tigers to earn First Team All Mid-South Conference Bluegrass Division honors. During the season, Caldwell notched 12 tackles for loss – ranking 10th in the Mid-South Conference. He also has compiled 4-1/2 sacks during his first collegiate season en route to earning divisional Freshman of the Year honors on the defensive side of the ball.
Joining Caldwell on the first team is Dante Hollis, Zerric Willis, Kendon Young, Keanu Young, Wade Holtsclaw, Darius Moore and BJ Pelt.
Hollis anchored the Campbellsville offensive line starting all nine games of the season and helping the Tigers record the top passing attack in the nation with 393.4 yards per game.
Keanu Young led the Tigers with 64 catches for 805 yards and nine touchdowns. He also a pair of rushing scores and ranks fifth in the MSC with 89.4 receiving yards per game.
Kendon Young is seventh in the MSC with 76.3 receiving yards per game and he is tied for the team lead with nine touchdown receptions. In eight games this season he has averaged a team-best 21 yards per catch.
Willis finished the regular season with 631 receiving yards and 44 receptions. Of his 44 grabs, five have gone for touchdowns. His 70.1 receiving yards per game rank eighth in the Mid-South.
Moore is one of three Campbellsville defenders selected to the first team all-conference after racking up 63 tackles this season. He is second on the team in tackles and has chipped in with a pair of pass breakups; to go along with two forced fumbles.
Pelt rounds out the Tigers on the All-MSC Bluegrass Division First Team after sitting fourth in the NAIA with six interceptions this season. Pelt’s six picks are also tied for most in the conference. During his first season with Campbellsville he has racked up 39 tackles.
On the All Mid-South Conference Bluegrass Division Second Team, Terence Stewart, Cruise Coulter, Hunter Brown and Elmer Barron represented the Tigers.
Stewart started all nine regular-season games at center for the Tigers during his sophomore season. He has helped Campbellsville notch 3,541 passing yards – which is fourth in the NAIA.
Coulter caught 10 passes this season for 174 yards. His yards per catch average of 17.4 is second best on the team and he his fifth on the team with two touchdown receptions.
Brown leads the NAIA with 379.7 passing yards per game this season has orchestrated the best passing attack in the nation that averages 393.4 yards a contest. He has thrown for 30 touchdowns this season and completed 62.2 percent of his passes.
Barron is the lone Tiger defender on the second team after he notched a team-best 5-1/2 sacks this season. Four of his sacks came against Georgetown College – which tied a new program record. Overall, Barron has 33 total tackles and 7-1/2 tackles for loss.
Last season, Brown was named to the First Team All-MSC West, while Keanu Young, Kendon Young and Wade Holtsclaw earned second team honors.
Lindsey Wilson College swept the Bluegrass Division Players of the Year with Trent Mueller being named the Defensive Player of the Year and Dylan Beasley was selected the Offensive Player of the Year. Blue Raider head coach Chris Oliver was selected the Ron Finley MSC Bluegrass Division Coach of the Year. De’Anta Sipp rounded out the individual awards after being named the Offensive Freshman of the Year.
Campbellsville wraps up its 2017 season on Saturday afternoon against Southwestern Assemblies of God University in the NCCAA Victory Bowl. Kickoff is set for noon ET from Finley Stadium.
