Kentucky State Football Will Conclude its 2017 Campaign on Saturday at Alabama A&M

Kentucky State University football will conclude its 2017 season on the road Saturday against Alabama A&M with kickoff slated for 2 pm ET (1 pm CT) at Louis Crews Stadium.

The Thorobreds (3-7, 2-4) are coming off a much-needed bye week, after not making the SIAC Championship game. Following a 20-16 loss on the road to Benedict College on Nov. 4, KSU remains one game short of matching last year’s win total of four. The Bulldogs (3-7, 3-4) enter the matchup losing three consecutive contest, including two home games in the three-game stretch.

Over the last two games against BC and Lane College, the Thorobreds have focused on a youth movement and looking towards the 2018 season. Freshman linebacker Kenneth Horn saw significant playing time against the Tigers, leading the team in tackles with nine. Sophomore defensive tackle Chris Roberts continues to be a menace in the trenches picking up 22 tackles in the last three games, while only recording 20 wrap-ups in the previous seven games.

Offensively, junior quarterback Michael Simpson has shown the ability to make plays as a dual threat. Simpson has thrown for over 100 yards in each of his last two starts while also rushing for over 25 yards. He has also accounted for a passing touchdown in each game he has started for the Thorobreds.

A point of emphasis for the Thorobreds in 2017 has been the running attack on the back of sophomore running back Brett Sylve. Entering Saturday’s game, Sylve is just 29 yards shy of eclipsing 1,000 rushing yards in a season. He remains in the top-five of NCAA Division II in all-purpose yards at No. 5 with 1,897 total yards and 189.70 yards per game.

Fans planning to attend can purchase tickets online and will be asked to create an account with the Alabama A&M ticket office. One may also buy tickets before the game via phone by dialing the ticket office at 256-372-4700 between the hours of 10 a.m. and 5 p.m. CST.
