“Going into SIAC play, the guys know that we have to improve in a lot of aspects,” said head coach Jamaal Jackson. “We know exactly where we’re struggling, and we’ll be working to improve it. We’re battered, literally broken, and bruised, guys are still giving everything they have, and we’re building on that mentality.”
The Thorobreds (0-5) will begin conference play this weekend after starting the season winless against non-conference foes with two more to play on Dec 6 and Dec 9 against Salem International University and the University of Illinois Springfield. The Eagles (4-1) had their three-game win streak to start the season snapped yesterday by the University of Indianapolis and will take on Carlow University on Sunday, Nov. 26.
AU came out firing taking an early 18-6 advantage and eventually rolling in the half with 44-30 lead after a late 9-3 swing in the closing minutes. The second half proved to be a tough 20 minutes for the Thorobreds as the Eagles used the late first-half momentum to build on their lead for the eventual final.
Senior guard Reggie Breeden led the green and gold in scoring for the second straight game with 14 points and a team-high four assists. Senior guard Michael Stevenson and junior center David Jelks played valuable minutes off the bench as each scored 10 points, with Stevenson leading the team in rebounds with seven.
The contest put an end to a seven-day, five-game stretch for the Thorobreds, as they will now embark on a six-game homestead ranging from Nov. 25 to Dec. 9. KSU will face-off with Fort Valley State University on Saturday at 3 pm ET, and the game is a free admission game.
