Thomas More Wrestling Finishes Sixth at North Central Invite

Sophomore James Caniglia (Loveland, Ohio/Loveland) won the 197 weight class and the Thomas More College wrestling team finished sixth out of 15 teams at the North Central College Invitational today (Saturday, December 9, 2017) in Naperville, Illinois.

Caniglia placed first at 197 as he had a pin in 4:05, a medical forfeit and won the first place match with an 11-1 major decision.

First-year Jimmy Murphy (Milford, Ohio/Milford) was second at 125 as he 14-7 decision win, an 11-9 sudden victory and a 9-8 decision, but fell in the championship match by a 4-0 decision.

In the 133 weight class, the Saints had a fourth and fifth place finisher. First-year Tanner Yenter (California, Ky./Campbell County) was fourth as he had a pin in 2:26, a 5-3 decision and a 3-2 decision First-year Kenny Byers (Cincinnati, Ohio/Colerain) was fifth as he had a pin in 3:38 and 2:31 and a 19-4 technical fall.

Sophomore Ahmad Hameidan (Florence, Ky./Boone County) was sixth at 285 as he had a pin in 6:19 and a 3-2 decision.

At 157, first-year Cody Roland (Taylor Mill, Ky./Scott) had a 4-2 decisionn win, and first-year Gunnar Dawson (Madison, Ohio/Madison) earned an 8-5 decision in the 165 weight class. In the 184 weight class, sophomore John Butler (Lake Havasu, Ariz./Lake Havasu) had a pin in 2:22 and sophomore Avery Jones (Amelia, Ohio/Glen Este) had a 12-3 major decision and a 5-1 decision.

The Saints return to the match next Saturday (December 16) when they compete in the Gator Boots Duals hosted by Luther College in Nashville, Tennessee.
