The Eastern Kentucky University men’s basketball team fell at Northern Kentucky, 91-63, on Sunday evening at BB&T Arena.
EKU (4-6) got out to a quick start, as a three-pointer by sophomore Asante Gist capped a 14-4 run and gave the Colonels an 18-15 lead with 10:09 remaining in the first half.
The game was tied at 25-25 with 5:15 left in the half. NKU (7-3) closed the first half on a 12-4 run to take a 37-29 lead into the break.
The Norse then opened the second half on a 10-1 run to balloon their lead to 17 points, 47-30. They led by double digits the rest of the way.
Northern Kentucky shot 60.7 percent (36-of-61) from the field on the night, its best shooting performance of the season.
The Colonels stifled the Norse from behind the arc (3-of-19 from three-point range / 15.8 percent); however, NKU outscored EKU, 64-18, in the paint.
Junior Jackson Davis led EKU with a career-high 13 points, while Gist contributed 12 points and five assists. Senior Zach Charles tallied a season-high, and game-high, nine rebounds for the Colonels.
NKU forwards Drew McDonald and Carson Williams scored 23 points and 21 points, respectively, to pace the Norse.
EKU has this upcoming week off for final exams. The Colonels return to action on Friday, December 15, when they travel to Charleston, South Carolina to face Charleston Southern. Tip is scheduled for 7:30 p.m.
