Three Eastern Kentucky University student-athletes got an early start to the indoor track and field season on Friday night at the Hoosier Open inside Harry Gladstein Fieldhouse.
Senior Luisa Boschan – a 2017 NCAA East Region qualifier in the outdoor 5,000 meters last season (16:20.98) – won the women’s 3,000 meters, clocking a personal-best time of 9:41.90. That time is currently tops in the OVC by over 20 seconds.
Senior Charlotte Imer, meanwhile, finished second in the women’s 5,000 meters with a time of 16:09.20. Imer was a second team All-American in the outdoor 5,000 meters last season with a personal-best time of 15:59.3. Senior Ciara Scott – the 2017 OVC steeplechase champion – took fourth in the women’s 5,000 meters in 17:30.32.
Boschan, Imer and Scott were all key members of the first-ever EKU women’s cross country team to qualify for the NCAA Championships this fall.
A majority of the EKU track and field team opens the indoor season January 12-13 at the Kentucky Invitational in Lexington.
