UofL Soccer’s Kubel Receives First Team All-America Honor from United Soccer Coaches

University of Louisville senior defender Tim Kubel was named Thursday night as a 2017 First Team All-American by the United Soccer Coaches. It marked the second straight season Kubel has earned an All-America honor after being tabbed as a Second Team selection in 2016.

Kubel concluded his final collegiate season as a semifinalist for the MAC Hermann Trophy and as an All-ACC First Team honoree while scoring six goals with seven assists in 19 matches for the Cardinals in 2017. A native of Stuttgart, Germany, Kubel closed his career with 21 goals and a school record 26 assists in 82 matches during his four seasons. Kubel is a four-time All-ACC selection and a two-time MAC Hermann Trophy semifinalist.

Along with his career assists record, Kubel is also Louisville’s single season assists record holder registering 11 assists in 2016. A team captain in each of the last two seasons, this former ACC Freshman of the Year honoree is also a three-time All-ACC Academic Team selection.

The Cardinals closed the 2017 season with a 13-2-5 record after suffering a heartbreaking 4-3 shootout loss to Akron in last Friday’s NCAA Championship quarterfinal match at Dr. Mark and Cindy Lynn Stadium. Under the guidance of head coach Ken Lolla, Louisville reached the Elite Eight of the NCAA Championship for the second straight season and the fifth time in the last eight years.
