Campbellsville’s Smith grabs MSC MBB Player of the Week honors for 1st time in his career

Andrew Smith average a double-double for the Tigers last week en route to being named the Mid-South Conference Men’s Basketball Player of the Week, the conference office released on Monday.

This is the first time all season Campbellsville has had an individual garner the weekly honor, while this is Smith’s first weekly of his career.

Smith guided No. 21 Campbellsville to a 2-0 mark last week averaging 18 points and 10 rebounds to help the Tigers push its winning streak to seven games.

He started the week with nine points and 12 rebounds in a 94-88 win at Alice Lloyd College in Campbellsville’s first true road game of the season. He made 3-for-4 shots and knocked down his only three-pointer of the game. Smith also led the team with a pair of blocks.

Against Freed-Hardeman University, the Johnson City, Tennessee native racked up a career-high 27 points in an 84-76 win on the road. Smith also chipped in the eight rebounds and just missed a double-double. In the contest he tied his career high with three blocks and had three assists, to go along with two steals.

After hitting 11-of-14 shots against the Lions – and making 4-of-5 threes – Smith shot 77.8 percent from the floor and 83.3 from beyond the arc for the week. He also finished with three free throws on four tries.

On the season, Smith ranks seventh in the NAIA with 21 blocks this season, while his 96 rebounds are 16th in the country. The junior is tied for second on the team with 13.7 points per game and he leads the way with eight rebounds per game.

Campbellsville is back in action on Friday night at 7 p.m. ET against Taylor University at Lindsey Wilson College’s Classic in Columbia, Ky.
