“We were just flat today on both ends of the floor, and when you are playing against good teams, they’ll make you pay,” said head coach Terrance Slater. “We will continue to focus on these areas in practice to try and get better for Saturday.”
The Thorobrettes (3-11, 3-4) have dropped four of their last five conference matchups, including three in the Capitol City. The Lady Panthers (8-7, 5-2) are the opposite of KSU winning four of their previous five against conference foes, ranking No. 2 in the SIAC east division.
KSU went into the locker room trailing just by a point at 22-21, but CU capitalized on a host of mistakes including forcing a total 24 turnovers and collecting 16 offensive rebounds against the host.
With the Lady Panthers leading by just two points at 31-29 with under six minutes to go, the Thorobrettes fell victim to a 17-2 run, putting them in a hole they couldn’t overcome.
Senior guard Brittani Rizzi showed to be the only offensive threat for the green and gold, as she was the lone player to score over four points with a team-high 19 while going 5-for-11 for beyond the three-point arc.
Junior guard Lyndsey Downing worked for a balanced stat line of seven assists, seven rebounds, and four points. Monday’s game marked the third time this season, Downing recorded over five rebounds and five assists in a game.
KSU will now go on the road to visit Paine College for its next matchup. The Thorobrettes and Lady Lions will tip off on Jan. 6 at 5:30 PM ET at the Heal Complex.
