One day after his engagement, former WKU quarterback Mike White received more good news in the form of an invitation to the 2018 NFL Scouting Combine, held Mar. 2-5 in Indianapolis at Lucas Oil Stadium.
“We are thrilled for Mike to get yet another opportunity to showcase his ability as one of the nation’s best quarterbacks at the NFL Combine,” said head coach Mike Sanford. “Mike has all the tools to be able to succeed at the next level, and this will be a great platform to highlight his skill at the position in front of NFL coaches and executives.”
A two-year starter and All-Conference performer for the Hilltoppers, White led WKU to the 2016 Conference USA Championship, the 2016 Boca Raton Bowl Championship and threw for 8,540 yards and 63 touchdowns in the red and white. White is one of only two quarterbacks in school history to have multiple passing seasons of over 4,000 yards and his career quarterback rating of 158.1 is second in program history.
White’s ability to make smart decisions with the football was one of his trademarks on The Hill as evidenced by his school-record marks of 161 consecutive passing attempts without an interception and 14 consecutive completions in a game.
The Pembroke Pines, Fla., native becomes WKU’s second consecutive starting quarterback to attend the NFL Combine, following in the footsteps of former signal caller Brandon Doughty who attended the 2016 combine before becoming a draft selection of the Miami Dolphins. He is also the fifth Hilltopper in the past three seasons to attend the NFL’s top annual scouting event.
Doughty and Los Angeles Rams tight end Tyler Higbee went in 2016 while Taywan Taylor (Tennessee Titans) and Forrest Lamp (Los Angeles Chargers) attended last season. Quarterback workouts at the combine are expected to be held on Mar. 3.
It will be a busy offseason for White who will also be participating in the 2018 Reese’s Senior Bowl, held Jan. 27 in Mobile, Ala. Practices for the game begin Jan. 23. Both the senior bowl and combine can be seen on NFL Network.
