UK Swim & Dive Falls to Ohio State, Defeats Toledo

The Kentucky swimming and diving program wrapped up its two-day meet against Ohio State and Toledo on Saturday evening. The No. 15 Kentucky women’s team downed Toledo, 321-61, but both UK squads fell to Ohio State as the women were defeated, 204-185, and the men, 210.5-178.5.

“It was a really good meet,” said head coach Lars Jorgensen. “Ohio State was fantastic top to bottom, so I give them a lot of credit. They are well coached and did a great job. We came up a little bit short with both teams, but we definitely saw some positives. We have some things we need to improve on, and we’ll try to make some of those adjustments over the next five weeks heading into SECs, but this meet was great preparation for NCAAs in swimming back-to-back days. Very productive.”

Between both teams, the Wildcats combined for 13 event victories on the day.

Sophomore Asia Seidt and junior Geena Freriks led the way for the UK women on Saturday, each earning multiple victories on the day.

Seidt had wins in all three of her individual events on Saturday. Her first victory came in the 100 butterfly with a time of 53.15, before touching first in the 100 backstroke at 53.34. An NCAA ‘B’ standard time of 1:58.34 in the 200 IM solidified her third win of the day.

Freriks swept the middle distance freestyle events for the Wildcats, winning the 200 and 500 freestyle events. Her winning time of 4:46.34 in the 500 free is an NCAA ‘B’ standard time.

The UK women turned in two relay victories on the day. Sophomore Ali Galyer, junior Haley McInerny, freshman Bailey Bonnett and Freriks teamed up to win the 800 freestyle relay in 7:20.31. Senior Bridgette Alexander, Bonnett, McInerny and Freriks went 3:39.88 to help end the meet with a win in the 400 medley relay.

For the men’s team, sophomore Glen Brown picked up a pair of wins on Saturday, winning both the 200 and 400 IM. In the 200 IM, Brown led the Wildcats in a 1-2-3 sweep of the event, as freshman Daniel Orcutt finished second and sophomore Connor Blandford touched the wall third.

Senior Isaac Jones added two victories for the Wildcats, winning both the 200- and 500-yard freestyle races. In the morning session, Jones clocked in at 1:38.09 to take the 200 free title before coming back to win the 500 with a time of 4:22.96.

Kentucky took the top two finishes on men’s platform diving as junior Seb Masterton won with a score of 366.00, edging out freshman Chase Lane who turned in a 361.60.

Sophomore Wyatt Amdor turned in a victory in the 100 breaststroke, going 55.01. Brown followed closely in second with a time of 55.85.

The Wildcats will be back in action January 20, traveling to Louisville for the annual Battle in the Bluegrass. The meet is set for a 1 p.m. ET start.
