The Thomas More College wrestling team finished 11th today (Saturday, January 6, 2018) at the Waynesburg University Invitational held at the Rudy Marisa Fieldhouse in Waynesburg, Pennsylvania.
First-year Jimmy Murphy (Milford, Ohio/Milford) and sophomore Avery Jones (Amelia, Ohio/Glen Este) placed fourth at 125 and 184 respectively and sophomore James Caniglia (Loveland, Ohio/Loveland) placed sixth at 197.
Murphy had an 8-0 major decision, a 4-2 decision before falling by a 12-6 decision, but then had a pin in 5:22 before falling in the third place match by a 4-3 decision. Jones opened his weight class with three straight pins in 4:00, 1:40, 4:00 and loss on a pin, then had a 6-4 decision before falling by an 11-5 decision in the third place match. Caniglia had a 12-1 major decision, a pin in 4:45, then suffered a pin in 6:57 before having an injury forfeit in the fifth place match.
Sophomore Ahmad Hameidan (Florence, Ky./Boone County) was 3-2 at 285 as he had a 10-6 decision, a 5-2 decision and a 3-2 decision. First-year Kenny Byers (Cincinnati, Ohio/Colerain) was 2-2 at 133 with a pin in 1:30 and a 6-3 decision. First-year Jimmy Traub (Cincinnati, Ohio/Sycamore) was 1-2 at 157 as he had a pin in 5:30.
The Saints return to action next Saturday (January 13) when they travel to North Manchester, Indiana to compete at the Spartan Mat Classic hosted by Manchester, Indiana.
