Kentucky and Louisville Baseball Holding Fall Ball with Scrimmages

“Fall Ball” has started for universities across the nation and in Kentucky. Fall ball is when a university’s baseball team practices and has inter-squad scrimmages on campus. Universities as big as UK and as small as St. Catharine  are participating in fall ball to keep players in form and on the field. Incoming freshman  will be jockeying for positions and getting used to the college speed of the game. Fall ball is more than practice. It gives the coaching staff an opportunity and a perspective on how players have developed from last season and help put together a line up and see how their recruits are developing .

The University of Louisville is currently in week 3 of practice with two open scrimmages scheduled for Friday and Saturday at Jim Patterson Stadium. Friday’s scrimmage starts at 3 pm and Saturdays scrimmage is set for 10 am. Last year Louisville made it to the College World Series and were a top 10 team all season. This is a great opportunity to see this year’s team. Louisville is scheduled to host weekend scrimmages throughout the conclusion of full squad workouts in mid October. Dates and times for future scrimmages as well as the annual Pizza Bowl will be announced this fall.

Kentucky on the other hand looks to turn around a disappointing year being highly  ranked early and most of the season to floundering at the end of the season to no post season play. They open their 2013 fall practice season Friday with an intrasquad scrimmage at 2pm. They will also scrimmage Saturday at 11:45 am and again on Tuesday at 2:15pm at Cliff Hagan Stadium.
