No. 1 Georgetown MBB rally falls short vs Life University, falls 82-77

A steal by Darion Burns with 2:27 left led to a Quan Poindexter basket, pulling No. 1 Georgetown College to one. However, Life University held off the Tigers, winning 82-77. This is GC’s first loss, having its best start ever under coach Chris Briggs. The Running Eagles improve to 12-5 and 1-1 in Mid-South Conference play.

The score by Poindexter nearly erased a 12-point deficit, largest of the game. Life hit a free throw on the next trip for just a two-point game, but an empty trip allowed the home team to hit a three and never look back.

Poindexter led with 17 points, while Troy Steward (16) and Shadell Millinghaus (15) also scored in double digits. Undra Mitchem led with 26 points. Three other Running Eagles hit double figures – Michael Miller (16), Zach Landis (16) and Ivan Benkovic (12).

Georgetown is back in action hosting University of the Cumberlands 4 pm Saturday.

Also attached is a box that shows Darion’s steal and Poindexter’s basket to pull it to 72-71. Not sure why that basket doesn’t show in the other stat file. Sorry.
