UofL Track and Field Finishes with Two Wins at the UK Invitational on Saturday

The University of Louisville track and field teams finished the second day of competition at the UK Invitational with two wins and seven top three finishes. Emmonnie Henderson won the shot put while Javen Reeves won the high jump to lead the Cardinals on Saturday afternoon.

“We were solid across the field events today and also saw some outstanding efforts on the track,” said head coach Dale Cowper. “Javen and Emmonnie led the way with individual event titles in the high jump and shot put.”

Henderson won the shot put with a season best throw of 16.35m/53’73/4”. Reeves and Jerin Allen took the top two spots in the high jump. Reeves won the event with a jump of 2.15m/7’1/2” while Allen finished second with a jump of 2.15m/7’1/2”.

Alexis Gibbons and Teague Peck both recorded second place finishes on the day. Gibbons finished second in the long jump with a distance of 5.93m/19’51/2”. Peck clocked a time of 48.31 in the 400 meters to finish as runner-up.

Marcus Jegede and Devin Valentine rounded out the top finishes on Saturday with third place finishes in the long jump and the triple jump, respectively. Jegede jumped 7.28m/23’103/4” to finish third while Valentine tied his personal best with a jump of 15.15m/49’81/2” to finish third.

The Cardinals will be back in action next weekend as they travel to South Bend to participate in the Notre Dame Invitational.

“This weekend should serve as a good tune up for us as we approach scored competitions at Notre Dame and Illinois the next two weekends,” said Cowper.
