Campbellsville Univ athletics announces renderings & groundbreaking date for new fieldhouse

The Campbellsville University athletics department received blue prints and construction approval on a new fieldhouse, Vice President for Athletics Rusty Hollingsworth announced on Monday.

Construction on the CU Tiger Fieldhouse is scheduled to begin with a groundbreaking ceremony on Monday, Feb. 6 at 1:30 p.m. ET. The project is expected to take 10-12 months, meaning the fieldhouse will open in the spring of 2019.

“This is another step toward making the vision we have for our facilities a reality,” Hollingsworth said. “We are still saddened to lose the history and tradition the old H&W Sport Shop Fieldhouse had before it burned last spring but we are excited to begin construction on this new fieldhouse.

“Our coaches and student-athletes deserve a top-notch facility and this state-of-the-art addition will help our goal of competing at the highest level possible.”

The new two-story fieldhouse will be located on the corner of Tiger Way and Chandler Street – across from the Hawkins Athletic Center. The fieldhouse will be the new home for men’s and women’s soccer and Fighting Tiger football. It will feature locker rooms for all three sports, coaches’ offices, administration offices, new and improved Hall of Fame room, the Big Maroon Club, conference rooms and a new spirit shop with official athletics apparel.

The cost of the fieldhouse, which is the first addition since the wrestling facility was opened in the Fall of 2016, is estimated around $3.5 million. The new facility – which is yet to be named – is being constructed by Blevins Construction in Campbellsville.

The west-end of campus has become the permanent home for Campbellsville University student-athletes. The fieldhouse will join Hawkins Athletic Center, Powell Athletic Center, Finley Stadium, HIG Field, the Ronnie and Laura Hord Indoor Facility, the Kelly Hall Tennis Complex, Gosser Gymnasium and the wrestling facility.
