The University of Louisville men’s tennis team fell 4-0 to No. 10 TCU Sunday in the consolation match of the ITA Kick-Off Weekend. The Cardinals (3-2) will return to action on Feb. 4 when they play host to Dartmouth at 12 p.m. and Austin Peay at 5:30 p.m. at the Bass-Rudd Tennis Center.
TCU (3-1) picked up wins on courts one and two to take the doubles point. Louisville senior Nicolas Rouanet and junior Federico Gomez fell 6-4 to the Horned’ Frogs’ Reese Stalder and Bertus Kruger at No. 2. On court one, Louisville sixth-ranked duo of junior Christopher Morin-Kougoucheff and sophomore Parker Wynn lost a 6-4 decision to Alex Rybakov and Guillermo Nuñez.
In single action, TCU continued its momentum with victories at Nos. 2, 4 and 5 to secure the win. At the two-spot, Gomez fell 6-0, 7-6 (7-4) to Stalder. Senior Ciro Lampasas lost 6-1, 6-4 to Kruger. The match was decided on court three where Rouanet dropped a 6-4, 6-2 decision to Nuñez.
“Nobody is happy with today’s result, but we learned some things that losing teaches you,” said UofL head coach Rex Ecarma. “We took notes and know what to work on. This should encourage the players to assess their team goals for the season.”
