Murray State Rifle Ties School Record In Win Over Morehead

Match Overview
The Murray State rifle team fired season-highs for all three scores and tied a program-record for aggregate Sunday as they bested Morehead State, 4720-4629, at the UK Rifle Range in Lexington.

Smallbore
The Racers clustered their smallbore scores in the match with just four points separating leader, Barbara Schläpfer, at 587 and the final counter, Ben Estes, at 584. MacKenzie Martin and Ivan Roe filled in the middle scores at 586 and 585, respectively. Outsider of the counters, Alathea Sellars shot a 581, while Robert Broadstreet tallied a 576. Murray State’s total of 2342 was a season-high, one better than the previous season best set in November in Jacksonville.

Air Rifle
A tight cluster of scores once again served the Racers well in air rifle, with Schläpfer, Roe and Broadstreet all firing a 595. Martin rounded Murray State’s smallbore by finishing close behind at 593. Estes finished the event with a 591, while Sellars shot a 589. The 2378 total in air rifle was just one behind the program record set in November of 2016 at Ohio State.

Aggregate
The 4720 aggregate ties the highest total score in program history, which was also shot in November of 2016, only at Jacksonville State. The total is 10 points better the Racers previous season-high of 4710, which came at home against Army West Point in October.
