Northern Kentucky women’s basketball fell to No. 20/20 Green Bay on Thursday evening as the Phoenix avenged an earlier season loss to the Norse, 58-41. With the setback, NKU drops to 5-17 overall and 3-8 in Horizon League play while the Phoenix picked up their 20th win of the season at 20-2 (10-1 HL).
STAT LEADERS
Molly Glick led the Norse with a game-high 13 points. She sank three 3-pointers, marking the first time in her career that she has had at least three triples in three consecutive games. She also added six rebounds to lead the team.
Samari Mowbray added seven points off a perfect 2-for-2 effort from long range and chipped in with two blocks.
Grayson Rose had six points and five rebounds.
Mikayla Terry dished out four assists while pulling down five boards.
FIRST HALF SUMMARY
In both the first and second quarters, NKU was held scoreless in the first five minutes of action. Terry opened up scoring for the Norse at the 4:28 mark in the first quarter, but NKU also kept Green Bay to a low count in the first part of the period, trailing just 4-2.
Green Bay shot 44.4 percent in the first quarter, but was held to 23.5 percent in the second quarter for 34.3 percent overall in the half. NKU shot 22.7 percent in the half.
The Phoenix did not hit a single 3-pointer on 11 attempts, while the Norse had three triples with a pair from Glick and one from Mowbray.
Green Bay held the slight rebounding edge, 22-21. Both Glcik and Terry led the Norse with four rebounds apiece.
SECOND HALF SUMMARY
NKU outscored the Phoenix in the third quarter, 16-15, off 7-for-12 shooting (58.3%). The Norse had a balanced offense with six different players scoring.
Green Bay pulled away in the final frame, shooting 50.0 percent while the Norse dipped to 30.0 percent off just three field goals, but only had a five-point advantage in the period, 16-11.
NORSE NOTES
Green Bay now holds a 6-1 advantage in the all-time series. The regular-season series was split 1-1, with NKU claiming a win on Dec. 30. The Norse are the only team in the Horizon League to have recorded a win over Green Bay this year.
The Norse barely lost the rebound battle, 36-35.
Green Bay converted 11 points off 16 turnovers by the Norse, 11 of which were by way of steals.
The Phoenix also outscored the Norse in the paint, 38-14, and in bench points, 26-25.
