Eastern Kentucky University’s A’Queen Hayes averaged a double-double in two games last week and was chosen as the adidas® Ohio Valley Conference Newcomer of the Week on Tuesday, the league announced from its Brentwood, Tennessee headquarters.
Hayes, a unanimous selection, averaged 17.5 points and 12 rebounds in games against Belmont and Tennessee State. She also contributed 2.5 steals and 2.0 assists per game.
The Horn Lake, Mississippi native had 17 points, 10 rebounds, three steals, two assists and one block against OVC leader Belmont. Two days later she recorded another double-double with 18 points and 14 rebounds against Tennessee State.
This marks the seventh time Hayes has earned OVC Newcomer of the Week honors. Hayes is averaging 15.6 points, 8.8 rebounds and 3.1 assists per game, ranking among the top-11 in the conference in all three categories.
The Colonels host a red-hot University of Tennessee at Martin team on Thursday. The game is scheduled to begin at 5:30 p.m.
