Following a record-breaking 2019 season capped off by the best finish in program history, the Kentucky gymnastics team will enter 2020 as the No. 12 team in the Women’s Collegiate Gymnastics Association Preseason Poll, announced on Wednesday.
The Wildcats continue their streak of appearing on the WCGA Preseason Poll in each of the past nine seasons, including top-10 rankings in 2018 and 2019. Last year, UK started the season at No. 10 before a National Qualifying Score of 394.685 earned the Cats a final standing of ninth in the country.
Each of the Southeastern Conference’s eight teams earned top-19 rankings in the WCGA Preseason Poll, while all but one of Kentucky’s 2020 opponents landed among the top 36. The Cats are set to face No. 2 LSU (Feb. 16), No. 3 Florida (Jan. 31), No. 8 Georgia (Feb. 21), No. 10 Alabama (Feb. 28), No. 13 Auburn (Feb. 7), No. 19 Arkansas (Jan. 24), No. 27 Illinois (March 6), No. 28 NC State and No. 36 Lindenwood (Jan. 17) and No. 30 West Virginia (March 13) after their regular season opener at No. 5 Utah (Jan. 3) and home opener versus No. 16 Missouri (Jan. 10) on Excite Night at Rupp Arena.
Kentucky will first provide fans with a sneak peak of the upcoming season in the form of its annual Blue/White Meet on Sunday at 3 p.m. ET. Admission to the exhibition contest at Memorial Coliseum is free to the public.
