Eastern Kentucky University’s football team lost 56-10 at West Virginia University on Saturday at Milan Puskar Stadium.
The Mountaineers (1-0) jumped in front 21-0 with the help of two touchdowns by Leddie Brown. His first, on a 10-yard rush, got the home team on the board. His second was on a 15-yard pass from Jarret Doege. A 32-yard scoring catch by Sam James with 12:59 left in the second capped the quick start.
The Colonels (0-2) got on the board on the ensuing drive. Alonzo Booth got the drive started with back-to-back runs of eight and 15 yards, getting EKU to mid-field. Parker McKinney then found freshman Jake Sloan down the middle for 23 yards to the WVU 29 yard line. Two plays later, McKinney connected with Keyion Dixon for a 28-yard touchdown grab. The drive covered 75 yards on five plays in 2:10.
West Virginia added three more first half touchdowns, including another scoring run by Brown to take a 42-7 lead at halftime.
Alexander Woznick’s 32-yard field goal with 12:16 to go in the third made it 42-10.
McKinney went 9-for-17 with 131 passing yards and one touchdown. Dixon had a team-best three receptions for 53 yards and one score. Booth rushed for 45 yards on seven carries. Kaleb Lundy posted a team-best and career-high nine tackles on the game. Antonio Smith finished with five tackles, including two for a loss.
Eastern posted 206 total yards of offense on the day.
Doege was 19-for-25 with 288 yards and three touchdowns for the Mountaineers. Two WVU running backs – Alec Sinkfield and Brown finished with 123 yards and two touchdowns each.
EKU’s 2020 season continues at The Citadel on Sept. 26. Kickoff in Charleston, South Carolina is scheduled for 1 p.m.
