NKU MBB Marques Warrick picks up fifth league freshman of the week honor

Northern Kentucky men’s basketball player Marques Warrick has been named the Horizon League Freshman of the Week for the fifth time this season, the league office announced on Monday.

Warrick averaged 18.5 ppg while shooting 54 percent (15-of-28) from the floor and 46 percent (5-of-11) from three in a pair of road wins versus Robert Morris. He also contributed 3.5 rebounds, 3.0 assists and a steal per game. On Friday, Warrick poured in 20 points, marking his fifth 20-point showing in the team’s last eight games.

The Lexington, Kentucky native is averaging 14.6 ppg this year and is shooting 47 percent from the field and 35 percent from three. However, in Horizon League action Warrick averages 16.8 ppg, which ranks ninth, while shooting 49 and 37 percent from the floor and long range, respectively.

Warrick previously won the award on Nov. 30, Dec. 7, Jan. 4 and Jan. 11. Combined with David Böhm’s honor on Dec. 14, a Norse has claimed the accolade six of the nine times it has been awarded this year.

NKU is back in action at BB&T Arena this weekend with games lined up on Jan. 29-30 against UIC. Tipoff is slated for 6 p.m. and 5 p.m., respectively.
