EKU MBB To Play at Jacksonville on Wednesday

Eastern Kentucky University’s men’s basketball team will play at Jacksonville University on Wednesday.

The game is scheduled to begin at 7 p.m. ET and will air live on ESPN+.  The live radio broadcast of the game is available in the Richmond area on WCYO 100.7 FM, and can be heard worldwide on EKUSports.com.

INSIDE THE SERIES

–  The Colonels are 2-0 all-time against Jacksonville.

– The first meeting came on Dec. 7, 2016 with EKU picking up an 80-76 win in Jacksonville.

–  Almost a year later, Eastern Kentucky earned a 70-65 overtime win in Richmond on Dec. 2, 2017.

THE COLONELS

–  Eastern Kentucky is 11-13 and 3-7 in the ASUN Conference after falling at home to ASUN East Division leader Liberty, 91-84, on Saturday.

–  Curt Lewis scored a career-best 21 points against Liberty.  He set new career-highs for field goals (8), field goal attempts (15), 3-point field goal attempts (11) and tied his career-high for 3-pointers made (4).

–  Michael Moreno recorded his first double-double of the season with 16 points and a season-high 10 rebounds against Liberty.  It was the fifth double-double of his career.  He also tied his career-high with three blocks.

–  In his last two games, Moreno has hit 10 three-pointers.  He is 10-for-22 in that span for 45.5 percent.

–  Over the last three games, Eastern Kentucky is averaging 87 points per contest.

–  The Colonels lead the nation in steals (259), are fourth in steals per game (10.79/game), fourth in turnovers forced (18.25) and fourth in turnover margin (+5.92).

SCOUTING THE OPPONENT

–  Jacksonville sits at 14-8 overall and 6-4 in the ASUN.  The Dolphins had a three-game winning streak snapped on Saturday with a 64-58 loss at Jacksonville State.  

–  Kevion Nolan led JU with 19 points and seven assists against Jacksonville State.  Bryce Workman added 14 points and eight rebounds.  After shooting 52 percent in the first half, the Dolphins hit on just 26 percent in the second half and 37 percent for the game.  Jacksonville turned the ball over just six times.

–  Nolan has played in just 16 of the team’s 22 games, but leads the squad in scoring (13.6 ppg) and assists (4.0 apg).  Workman is second on the team in scoring at 9.2 points per game and contributes 4.8 boards per game.

–  As a team, Jacksonville averages 66 points per game and gives up just 59 per game, the best in the ASUN Conference.  The Dolphins have limited opponents to 39 percent shooting from the field (second in ASUN), including 30 percent from 3-point range (first in ASUN).  JU also leads the conference in rebound margin (+7.3 per game).
