Louisville Cardinals Swimming and Diving Teams Sweep Missouri

On Friday afternoon, the University of Louisville’s men’s and women’s swimming and diving teams swept the University of Missouri in Columbia. The No. 7-ranked Louisville women’s team won 207-93, with the No. 18-ranked Cardinal men beating the No. 22-ranked Tigers 175-125.

The Cardinals won all four relays and 20 individual events. For the women, Gabi Albiero won the 200 fly, the 100 free, and the 100 fly, as well as being on the winning 200 medley relay squad. Abby Hay won the 200 breast, the 400 IM, and was on the 200 medley relay squad as well. Paige Kuwata swept both distance events, with Julia Dennis taking the 50 free and being part of the 400 free relay.

On the men’s side, Abdelrahman El-Araby won the 50 and 100 free and was on both winning relays. Denis Petrashov swept the breast events and was on the 200 medley relay squad. Ilia Sibirtsev swept the distance events with wins in the 1000 and 500 freestyle, and Dalton Lowe picked up wins in the 100 fly as well as both relays.

In addition to these impressive individual performances, the Cardinals also dominated the diving events. Lindsay Gizzi won the 1-meter diving with a score of 269.18 for the women, and Che Stephens was the top male Cardinal with a second place score of 298.13. Stephens turned around and won the 3M event with a score of 340.05. For the women’s 3M, Else Praasterink took second with a score of 288.38, with Gizzi taking third with a mark of 278.40.

Overall, it was a dominant performance by the University of Louisville’s swimming and diving teams, with victories in all four relays and numerous individual events. The Cardinals will look to continue their success in their next meet.
