๐Ÿ€ Mississippi State edges Kentucky WBB in a 77-76 thriller

The University of Kentucky womenโ€™s basketball team suffered a tough loss to the Mississippi State Bulldogs with a final score of 77-76. With this loss, the Wildcats are now 9-10 overall and 1-6 in the league, while the Bulldogs improve to 15-5 overall and 4-3 in the league.

Kyra Elzy, who is in her third season as the head coach of the Wildcats, holds a 46-31 overall record and 18-20 overall record in the SEC. Despite the loss, Kentucky remains the leader in the all-time meetings with Mississippi State, 31-23, in a series that began in 1979. In games played in Starkville, UK and MSU are tied, 11-11.

The Wildcats started the game off strong, with Jada Walker scoring the team’s first six points in the game, thanks to back-to-back makes from the arc to take a two-point lead over Mississippi State, 6-4, with six minutes and 39 seconds remaining in the first quarter. The Cats went on a 7-2 run up to the media timeout to lead the Dogs, 11-6, at 4:46.

However, the Bulldogs came out of the break with a 10-0 run to take their first lead since 7:34 in the first quarter, 38-33. Kentucky tried to rally back, with Scherr crafting a 5-0 run on her own to tie the game, but Mississippi State was able to hold on to their lead and secure the win.

Kentucky will play host to Auburn on Thursday, Jan. 26 at 7 p.m. ET inside Memorial Coliseum for its annual We Back Pat game. With one game remaining before the SEC tournament, the Wildcats will be looking to secure a win and gain momentum heading into the tournament.
