The University of Louisville football season is set to begin on Friday, September 1, with the Chick-fil-A Kickoff Game against Georgia Tech in Atlanta. This game marks the Atlantic Coast Conference opener for both teams and the third time the Cardinals have participated in the kickoff game in the last nine seasons.
First-year head coach Jeff Brohm will lead the Cardinals in his first game in L&N Federal Credit Union Stadium on Thursday, September 7, against Murray State. The Cardinals own a 14-6 series advantage over the Racers and are looking to snap a two-game losing streak to Boston College when they host their first ACC home game of the year on Saturday, September 23.
Throughout the season, the Cardinals will play their fair share of weekday and neutral site games, including a short trip to Lucas Oil Field in Indianapolis to face Indiana for the first time since 1986. They will also face NC State and Notre Dame, the latter of which owns a 2-1 overall series advantage.
Pitt Panthers will host the Cardinals on Saturday, October 14, and they will have their first open week of the season on October 21. The Cardinals will close the 2023 season with four of their last five games at home, including three straight home games against Duke, Virginia Tech, and Virginia.
The Cardinals will also face intra-state rival Kentucky on Saturday, November 25 for Senior Day. The ACC Football Championship Game will be played on December 2 at Bank of America Stadium in Charlotte, N.C., where the Cardinals hope to make their first appearance in program history.
Under the new ACC Football Scheduling Model, each team will play three primary opponents annually and face the other 10 league teams twice during the four-year cycle, once at home and once on the road. This schedule allows each team to face all 13 conference opponents home and away at least once during the four-year cycle. The 2023 season promises to be an exciting one for the Cardinals and fans alike.
