Cardinals Record Second Shutout Win of the Week and Fourth of the Season

The 19th-ranked University of Louisville baseball team made a strong comeback with an 11-0 victory over No. 12 Miami on Friday at Jim Patterson Stadium. This marks Louisville’s (28-14, 9-11 ACC) second shutout win of the week and fourth of the season.

Ryan Hawks delivered a solid performance, scattering eight singles over 4.2 scoreless innings in the start. Kayden Campbell (1-0) earned his first career victory with 1.1 innings of relief work, while Kade Grundy secured his first save by taking care of the final three.

The Cardinals kicked off the scoring in the second inning with back-to-back home runs for the third time this season. Brandon Anderson hit his first career home run to straightaway centerfield, followed by Eddie King Jr.’s fourth of the season. Louisville later loaded the bases, and Ryan McCoy contributed a two-run single into right-centerfield, bringing the score to 4-0 after two innings.

In the fourth inning, the Cardinals added two more runs with hits from Logan Beard and Gavin Kilen. Jack Payton then hit a two-run homer in the sixth inning, tying him for the team lead with 10 home runs this spring.

Isaac Humphrey and Tyeler Hawkins drove in runs in the seventh inning, and Anderson capped the scoring with a single in the eighth. Six different Cardinals recorded two hits on the night, with eight of the nine starters picking up a hit and scoring a run.

Louisville is set to wrap up the weekend series on Saturday, with the first pitch scheduled for 1 p.m. ET.
