On National Signing Day, WKU women’s basketball proudly welcomed two promising athletes, Torri James and Caleigh-Rose West, who will join the Lady Toppers for the 2024-25 season. The new recruits bring a wealth of talent and versatility to the team, further strengthening WKU’s roster for the upcoming campaigns.
Torri James: Versatile Forward from Clarksville, Tennessee
Torri James, a 6-foot senior forward from Rossview High School in Clarksville, Tennessee, brings an impressive track record to WKU. As a junior, James showcased her skills by averaging 16.8 points per game, 8.1 rebounds per game, and contributing two blocks per game. Her well-rounded abilities make her a valuable addition to the Lady Toppers.
Head Coach Greg Collins expressed his excitement about James joining the team, praising her work ethic, versatility, and competitive spirit. Not only is James a standout on the basketball court, but she also excels academically, maintaining a straight-A record. Her experience as a three-sport athlete, participating in volleyball and track and field alongside basketball, adds to her athleticism and adaptability.
Coached by WKU alum Anja Shelton and Clay Head, James has competed against some of the best players in the region, gaining valuable experience that will contribute to her success at WKU. With accomplishments like being named to the All-Region team in volleyball and holding the Rossview record in the high jump (5 feet 8 inches), James brings a winning mindset and a commitment to excellence.
Caleigh-Rose West: Dynamic Forward from Iowa Western Community College
Caleigh-Rose West, a 6-foot-1-inch forward currently playing at Iowa Western Community College, is set to bolster WKU’s roster with her versatility and experience. Under the guidance of head coach Mitch Rolls, West has established herself as one of the top junior college forwards in the country.
During the 2022-23 season at Iowa Western, West demonstrated her skills by averaging 6.0 points per game and contributing 4.0 rebounds per game. Her dynamic playstyle, high motor, and commitment to teamwork make her a valuable asset for WKU.
Coach Collins praised West’s understanding of the game’s details and her willingness to contribute in various ways. A native of Orlando, Florida, West began her collegiate career at the University of New Orleans, redshirting as a freshman before transferring to Iowa Western. Her high school basketball experience at Montverde Academy, where she led the team to a runner-up finish in the National Christian Independent School National Championship, showcases her leadership and competitive edge.
As Torri James and Caleigh-Rose West officially join WKU women’s basketball, the Lady Toppers look forward to the impact these talented recruits will make in the 2024-25 season. Their addition reflects WKU’s commitment to excellence and building a strong foundation for future success on the court.
