Two UK WGOLFers to Compete in 2023 Augusta National Women’s Amateur

The Augusta National Women’s Amateur is set to take place in Augusta, Georgia, from March 29th to April 1st, 2023. The tournament, which is a major event in the world of women’s amateur golf, has attracted 70 players from all over the world, including two golfers from the University of Kentucky, Jensen Castle and Laney Frye.

Jensen Castle, a senior from West Columbia, South Carolina, is ranked 25th on the final 2022 World Amateur Golf Ranking, while Laney Frye, a junior from Nicholasville, Kentucky, is ranked 75th. The two players are currently at the top of their game after helping their team to two straight tournament wins, and are both on track to break the single-season scoring-average program record. In fact, Castle and Frye currently own the top three marks on the program’s record list.

Both players have had impressive finishes in recent noncollegiate tournaments, with Castle being the 2021 U.S. Women’s Amateur Champion and Frye winning the 2022 U.S. Women’s Amateur stroke play portion of the tournament.

The tournament will feature 54 holes of stroke play and will be broadcast live on Golf Channel and NBC Sports. The first two rounds will take place on the Island and Bluff nines at Champions Retreat Golf Club, with the final round taking place at Augusta National. The final round will feature the competitors who make the cut after 36 holes of play.

This year’s Augusta National Women’s Amateur is set to be a major event in the world of women’s golf, with the best amateurs from around the world competing at one of the most renowned courses in the sport. With Jensen Castle and Laney Frye both playing at the top of their game, the University of Kentucky is sure to be well represented at the tournament.
