The University of Louisville women’s basketball team is set to represent the United States in the 2023 GLOBL JAM tournament in Toronto, Ontario. The Cardinals will be competing against three other national teams during the four-game event, which kicks off with round-robin play on July 12 and concludes with the medal games on July 16.
Head coach Jeff Walz expressed excitement about participating in the GLOBL JAM Tournament, stating, “It is a great opportunity for our team to gain valuable experience this summer and face some challenging national team squads.”
Joining the Cardinals in the tournament are the U-23 Canadian National Team, U-23 Puerto Rican National Team, and the U-23 Team Africa. This marks the second year of the GLOBL JAM tournament, with VCU having represented the United States last season. Junior guard Merissah Russell played for Team Canada last year, helping them secure the gold medal in the tournament’s inaugural year.
The round-robin portion of the tournament will commence on Wednesday, July 12, as the Cardinals face off against Puerto Rico at 11 a.m. ET at Toronto’s Mattamy Athletic Centre. They will then play against the host team, Team Canada, on July 13 at 5:30 p.m. ET. After a day of rest, their final round-robin game will be against Team Africa on July 15 at 11 a.m. ET.
The medal games will take place on July 16, with the Bronze Medal match starting at 11 a.m. ET and the Gold Medal match following later in the evening at 5 p.m. ET. Broadcast information for the tournament will be announced at a later date.
